1953 Established as Gibraltar Fence in Houston, TX

1969 Acquired by Merchants, Inc. primarily trucking and transportation business

1976 Corporate restructuring, renamed Merchants Metals Inc. (MMI) surviving corporation

1981 Merchants Metals opened New Paris, IN manufacturing facility

1982-88 Added 10 service centers

1983Merchants Metals completes construction of Statesville, NC manufacturing facility

1989 Merchants Metals merged with Ivy Steel & Wire Company, Inc. and Meadow Steel Products, Inc. The new corporation is named MMI Products, Inc.

1990-94 Merchants Metals adds 11 service centers

1995 Merchants Metals acquires Semmerling & Pioneer Fence Supply, adding 8 locations

1998 Merchants Metals acquires Security Fence Manufacturing and Supply Company in Bladensburg, MD

1999Merchants Metals purchased National Wholesale Fence Supply and National Fabrication and Coating Company, both in California

2006 MMI Products, Inc. is acquired by Oldcastle Building Products, Inc., the North American operation of CRH plc.
CRH is a leading worldwide producer and distributor of building products and construction materials.

2015Merchants Metals is acquired by Atlas Holdings, a diversified group of manufacturing, distribution, service and trading businesses including aluminum processing, automotive, capital equipment, construction, energy, industrial and business services, packaging, paper and tissue manufacturing, pulp and wood products and building materials.
2018 Merchants Metals acquires Denver, CO based company Continental Divide Fence, the go-to provider of fencing products in Colorado and its surrounding states.
2021 Merchants Metals is acquired by The Sterling Group, an operationally focused middle-market private equity firm based in Houston. Merchants Metals becomes the foundation for Sterling Group’s Fencing Supply Group, FSG, focused on building industry-leading independent fencing distributors.
PresentToday Merchants Metals is currently the second largest fencing manufacturer/ distributor in North America. The company manufactures and distributes fencing products for commercial, residential and industrial uses and currently has a total of 39 locations, 35 Service Center Locations and 4 Manufacturing Facilities.

Nagel Coat Hanger Company began weaving chain link fence fabric

1953

Established as Gibraltar Fence in Houston, TX
